How do you heat your home?
This is the biggest factor in your heat pump rebate amount.
Before you start
- You need to own the home
- The Home Renovation Savings Program covers owner-occupied homes in Ontario heated by gas, electricity, oil, propane, or wood. Condos and new builds usually do not qualify.
- Use a registered contractor
- Only participating contractors can submit your rebate. Search by postal code at homerenovationsavings.ca before you sign anything.
- Pick the right path
- Standalone heat pump: no pre-retrofit audit. Two or more upgrades together require an EnerGuide assessment first. Starting work before the assessment disqualifies bundled rebates.
- How you heat your home matters
- Natural gas from Enbridge caps most heat pumps at $2,000. Electric, oil, propane, and wood homes can hit $7,500 on the same equipment. Bundled insulation and windows can still push totals toward $10,000.
Electric, oil, propane, or wood heat: up to $7,500 on air-source heat pumps
If you do not heat with Enbridge natural gas, you likely qualify for the higher provincial rate. Gas-heated homes still have a path through bundled upgrades.

FAQ
Common questions
Quick answers on gas vs non-gas rates, audits, and how to apply without losing your rebate.
No. The provincial Home Renovation Savings Program is not income-tested. Your amount depends on how you heat your home and which upgrade path you choose. If you also apply for separate federal grants (such as OHPA for oil homes), those programs may have their own income rules.
